GDS – International Event for Shoes & Accessories from 11 to 13 September will see some 800 exhibitors present the trends and looks for Spring/Summer 2014. Add to this 330 exhibitors at GLOBAL SHOES, which is held at the same exhibition centre but already starting one day earlier.Tomaschewsky for the opening fashion show - As part of the GDS Upper Style Show staged on the first day of the trade fair at 11 am...
..., Lisa Tomaschewsky will present the premium trend label “ASH”, which is part of the Highline United Group. The actress caused a considerable stir with the film “Heute bin ich blond” earlier this year. Before she turned to acting she modelled for the renowned Elite Models agency and for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, for example. “Lisa Tomaschewsky is a young, trendy woman who perfectly embodies the ASH lifestyle,” says Highline United President and CEO Marcus Meyer and adds “for this reason we are delighted to see her present the latest ASH styles at the Upper Style Show.” As a second fashion show the GDS Trend Show will provide an outlook on the up-and-coming themes for the 2014 Spring/Summer season. GDS will put ten Focus Trends in the limelight. Themes that will influence shoe fashions in the 2014 Spring/Summer season include Black&White, Briquette Platforms and Sport Hybrids, to name but three. Events and Anniversaries: Industry Get-Together in Düsseldorf GDS brings the industry together. Various other events will also be held outside the exhibition grounds bringing glamour to Düsseldorf. On the eve of GDS shoe firm Lloyd will organise the unofficial kick-off celebrating their 125th anniversary with a grand VIP event under the motto “Follow the Red Stripe!”. The who’s who of the industry will also come together the evening after – this time at a prize-giving event for the Schuhkurier Awards to be presented on the occasion of GDS in Düsseldorf. For the tenth time now the best brand, the best retailer, best manufacturer as well as the best marketing campaign will be recognised. At Peter Kaiser people will also be in a party mood. The company turns 175. And the Association of Brazilian Shoe Manufacturers Abicalçados will also be using GDS to commemorate its 30 years of existence with partners and friends. A particular highlight once again is sure to be the popular GDS Party. From 6.00 pm on Thursday, the second day of the trade fair, a Caribbean feel is promised in the outdoor space between Halls 2 and 3 under the heading “BAHAMA MAMA”. “Household Names” and Young Talents Alongside the events staged around GDS exhibitors also have a great deal in store: prominent new entrants include Talbot Runhof and Liu Jo Shoes. Furthermore, other design brands like Crisian & McCaffrey, Whats more alive than you, Luciano Padovan and binné will present their collections at GDS for the first time. Other newcomers in Düsseldorf include exhibitors like Calou, El Campero, ShoeRepublic (urban authentic); The Bird and Guliver (essential) and Moon Flower, Celestino's as well as Maestro Funbag (superior). Even Gerry Weber has chosen to return to GDS as an exhibitor after taking a break, just like Josef Seibel. In addition to this, eight selected newcomers will showcase their creative designs in the upper style segment under the umbrella of the Portuguese Footwear, Components and Leather Goods Manufacturers’ Association APICCAPS. Featuring here will be Guava, Nelson Oliveira, Rutz and Xperimental Shoes, all exhibiting at GDS for the second time, and Common Cut, Hugo Costa, Jorge Lobo and Officina Lisboa celebrating their debut. Retailers on a quest for great fashion for small feet can especially look forward to the coming GDS: celebrating their premiere in the kidwalk area alongside Pom D´Api will be Stuart Weitzman and Michael Kors. Furthermore, the German traditional brand Gabor will also present children’s shoes on a separate stand in the kidwalk area. Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GDS and GLOBAL SHOES, sees this as proof that the changes made at GDS are going down well: “We only re-designed the kidwalk in March this year and already feel our decision was a good one after registrations from Stuart Weitzman, Michael Kors and Gabor Kids.” Design Attack guarantees Caribbean Feel The trendy Design Attack area in Hall 3 serves as a stage for some one hundred design newcomers and surprises visitors with a new motto every season. This time visitors and exhibitors will be whisked off to a beach paradise. The Caribbean served as a source of inspiration for the new motto BAHAMA MAMA –synonymous with summer, sun and relaxation. Amidst palm trees and white sand - 4 - Design Attack conjures up the hustle and bustle of Caribbean markets: fresh fruit and dainty cocktails as far as the eye can see. Presentation of the Industry’s Global Figures in 2013 On Friday the Portuguese Footwear Association APICCAPS will be presenting all sorts of information together with GDS. The “World Footwear Yearbook 2013” is a comprehensive reference compendium for the global shoe market. It features exclusive figures and country comparisons for output and shoe sales. However, the Portuguese will not only bring promising young designers and industry figures to Düsseldorf but will also use GDS as an occasion to present the “Portuguese Innovation Awards” recognising young talents from the Footwear Industry’s Centre of Professional Training in Portugal for their special achievements.
