Around 298 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions are taking part in Fashion Access which runs from 25 - 27 September 2013 in Halls 3FG, Hall 5F and Concourses of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Fashion Access is a design-driven fashion fair whose exhibitors consist of top-caliber and reliable contract manufacturers as well as original international brands,...
...offering the highest quality bags, footwear, small leathergoods, fashion accessories, leather garments, travelware and other lifestyle, luxury goods. There are 108 new companies at the show, many of whom are part of the pavilions representing Indonesia and the Philippines. “We have our biggest delegations from Indonesia and the Philippines to date. We are happy that the Directorate General for National Export Development or DGNED of Indonesia and the Centre for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) of the Philippines have organised and subsidised the participation of some of their countries’ upcoming designers and fashion brands at Fashion Access”, said Michael Duck, Director of APLF Limited, which is the Organiser of the fair. Both the Indonesian and Philippine manufacturers and designers at the show work mainly with organic materials and their products feature a lot of handcrafting. These and the innovative blend of traditional motifs and modern aesthetics give added value to their collections, making these very much in demand by exclusive boutiques and department stores the world over. Mr. Duck added, “We also have exhibitors from Brazil, Italy, France and the UK. A good number of the Italian brands are repeat exhibitors, eager to further explore opportunities in the Chinese and Asian markets”. India has long been known for its leathercraft and this expertise can be seen at the Indian pavilion spearheaded by the Council for Leather Exports or CLE which has brought in a sizeable delegation of Indian bag and footwear manufacturers. The fair is highlighted by a series of fashion events that include trends seminars, DressUp! Runway Shows presented by individual exhibitors or pavilions, material and product trends exhibits, and business matching activities for buyers and sellers. A much-awaited feature of Fashion Access is the Best of APLF Awards (BOAA) which is now on its 10th year of bringing recognition to excellence in design and manufacturing to be found at the APLF fairs here in Hong Kong. Mr. Duck noted, “This pursuit of excellence has clearly raised the bar for our exhibitors, making Fashion Access a strongly design-led fair that offers a high level of creativity and innovativeness”. Fashion Access has its origins in the Asia-Pacific Leather Fair (APLF) which, from the beginning, created a sector for finished leather goods to complement its leather exhibition. APLF eventually evolved into the Materials, Manufacturing & Technology fair (MM&T), arguably the biggest leather industry fair in the world, while the finished goods sector spun off and became Fashion Access. It soon became known as a bag fair but, in recent years, the footwear, small leathergoods and fashion accessories sectors also gained a strong foothold. This was in line with APLF Limited’s vision to make Fashion Access into a fair that catered to the “head-to-toe” needs of the global fashion consumer, with focus on the middle- to high-end markets. In March 2014, APLF Limited will celebrate 30 years of service to the leather and fashion industries.
