GDS – International Event for Shoes
Image& Accessories Promises Celebrities and Awards GDS takes place in the familiar format one more time from 12 to 14 March 2014, before it moves forward to offer a sneak peek at the season as a kick-off event in July 2014. In spite of the anxiously awaited relaunch, the industry is using the March date as an international trade meeting point: 800 exhibitors from more than 30 countries will present current footwear fashion...

Image...for the 2014/15 Autumn/Winter season. The sourcing fair GLOBAL SHOES begins one day before GDS – from 11 to 14 March, approximately 270 exhibitors will show their collections at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre.

Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, looks optimistically toward the future: “We are very excited about the upcoming event, and I interpret the industry´s participation as a good omen for the future. After all, a leading trade fair can only be convincing when the players play accordingly – just as the industry demands.”

In terms of content, the previous GDS concept offers an exciting line-up for its swan song. Bruno Bordese presents his new shoes line, Lara Hampton. Brand new at GDS is also the stand from Rizzolli, a manufacturer with more than a century of history, who offers elegant women´s and men´s shoes. T&F Slack Shoemaker London shows colourful brogues, and the Delle Cose label presents its new bag collection.

ImageIn the children´s sector, French supplier Little Mary and the Italian Asso S. r. l. are there for the first time with their Asso, Didi Blu and Laura Biagotti collections. This GDS is also a premiere for Red-Rag Develab and Zandbergen from the Netherlands. Pablosky from Spain and Nanga from Austria return to the fair after a brief respite.

Svenja Holtmann in „Collage Deluxe“

True to tradition, GDS will open with the Upper Style Show – presented this time by model Svenja Holtmann. The 26 year-old will lead the audience into the land of “Collage Deluxe”, in which the fashion thrives on the combination of various style elements, while GDS presents the matching shoe trends.

Guido Maria Kretschmer Presents Collection for Högl

Högl is expecting a VIP guest at the upcoming GDS: Guido Maria Kretschmer will be there to present his new shoe collection “Guido Maria Kretschmer for Högl”, which he developed in collaboration with the Austrian premium shoe manufacturer. The designer will be available at an autograph session at TRENDSINN5 across from the Högl stand after the presentation.

HDS/L presents Awards

Things will be ceremonious around HDS/L at the upcoming GDS. The Federal Association of the German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry presents its German Shoe Award, as well as the HDS/L Junior Award. In addition, for the fourth year in a row a celebrity will be named Shoe Wearer of the Year.

Extraordinary Design Attack with Cottage Vibe

Next to the VIP appearance, one can also rely on the creativity of the Design Attack, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary at the upcoming GDS. Since 2004 Design Attack has consistently surprised visitors with a current theme and a matching stand concept. Thus the young designers always have an elaborately designed ambiance for the presentation of their products. The theme for the 20th anniversary edition is ALPEN ROCKER STADL. The exciting mix of independent fashion, urban and underground street wear, including accessories and lifestyle products, will be presented this time in front of the backdrop of an idyllic country scene, combined with roaring motorcycle sounds and pithy rockers. The centerpiece of the spectacle is the country fair, replete with Alpine cottage and dance floor. Special recommendation: The celebration of Design Attack´s 20th anniversary, beginning at 6:00 pm on the first trade fair day.

GLOBAL SHOES Still Open for Four Days

For the final run of the current trade fair, GLOBAL SHOES will open one day earlier than GDS, which has been highly welcomed, as Kirstin Deutelmoser explains: “Our visitors from abroad especially appreciate the extended time period, which allows them more time for conversations as well as market exploration and observation. And the exhibitors are of course also happy to have an extra day for making new contacts.”

ImageGLOBAL SHOES takes place in Hall 8a and 8b. Visitors here will be welcomed by exhibitors from Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Taiwan, Turkey and the USA. In addition, joining them for the first time will be Vietnamese manufacturers with a group stand.

July 2014: Relaunch for GDS – Premiere of tag it! By GDS

Beginning in July 2014, the new GDS concept takes effect, with an earlier date (30 July to 1 August 2014) and a new orientation. GDS will then become a kick-off event, offering visitors a comprehensive overview at the beginning of the season.

Simultaneous with the premiere of the new GDS, a new, reworked trade fair concept will be launched: tag it! By GDS – the show for private labels in shoes and accessories – will be premiered from 29 July to 1 August 2014, and is the logical succession of what has been GLOBAL SHOES. The new trade fair concept addresses international manufacturers and dealers of shoes and accessories, with a focus on private label production.
