Sustainable Fashion is reinforced at MOMAD Shoes,
...with a clear commitment to innovation and trends

The biggest selection of Made in Spain footwear will be on show in Halls 5 and 7 of Feria de Madrid between 4-6 March

The event is submitting its new proposal, "Sustainable SHOES", which will include exhibitions, workshops, conferences and the participation of prestigious sustainable footwear companies like El Naturalista, Kayak Storm and Lofs, among others.

Sustainable fashion and socially engaged fashion that promote ethical and environmental principles, not just economic principles, in their different production and marketing processes, are once again at the forefront of the upcoming edition of MOMAD Shoes, the International Footwear and Accessories Trade Show, which is organised by IFEMA and will be held between 4-6 March in Halls 5 and 7 at Feria de Madrid.

ImageIn this framework, the event has scheduled a wide range of activities reflecting the spike in this segment's activity within the industry. Accordingly, it will accommodate the “Sustainable Experience”space, in which leading companies in sustainable footwear, like El Naturalista, Kayak Storm and Lofs, will present related projects and explain the parameters that they use in the manufacturing and sale of their products. They will also share the space with a variety of young companies, which are attending the event with a selection of designer collections especially adapted to the multi-brand channel.

Workshops and promotion of sustainable footwear companies

In collaboration with the Fashion and Slow Fashion Next Platform, “Sustainable Experience”, the event will include various workshops in which visitors can discover first-hand what the principles and applicable standards are in the production of sustainable footwear and the end value that they offer end consumers.

Innovation and sustainability

Innovation in sustainable fashion will be a big part of the MOMAD Forum agenda. MOMAD Forum is the trade fair area that offers information and knowledge, where renowned professionals will discuss the current state of the sector.

The Technological Institute for Footwear and Related Industries, INESCOP, and the Technological Centre for Footwear of La Rioja, CTCR, will intervene in a roundtable discussion on "Sustainable technological processes applied to footwear”, which will take place on Sunday 5 March. The latest advances in sustainable techniques being applied in research centres will be discussed here.

INESCOP will present the most innovative proposals in circular economy projects within the footwear sector, based on the reuse of waste produced by companies to obtain other products. The development of sustainable materials like chrome-free tanned leather, new materials from renewable sources and solvent-free adhesives are some of the other points that will be addressed. The importance of compliance with regulations on dangerous substances that affect footwear and its components (REACH regulations) will be covered as well. Lastly, there will be a presentation of the the calculation tool for carbon footprints, developed by this Institute, which allows greenhouse gas emissions that are released into the atmosphere during the manufacturing of a footwear model to be determined, with a view to reducing its environmental impact.

CTCR will be offering a preview of some of the most important projects associated with improving competitiveness in footwear and fashion companies, from the perspective of reducing environmental impact, eco-innovation, recycling or waste recovery for reuse of components, and more. Different studies conducted for leading brands will be exhibited for this purpose. These studies are aimed at improving products and/or processes from the standpoint of environmental sustainability, and examine such procedures as Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), eco-design, microbiological acquisition of bacterial cellulose and/or bio-materials like replacement leathers and textiles, chemical recycling technology using glycolysis, milling and micronisation applications, wet-laid technology, etc. This activity has enabled the design of footwear prototypes made with 100% recycled materials in which the environmental footprint is reduced by half.

Similarly, the CTCR will also take part in a roundtable discussion with the companies El Naturalista and Kayak Storm on the Inclusion of sustainable footwear companies in the multi-brand channel. In this discussion, added value will be analysed in conjunction with the tools used in this channel to reach end consumers when sustainable fashion and conventional fashion products are offered simultaneously.

"Sustainable Experience" will also rely on the collaboration and presence of some of the most representative organisations in the sector, like the Madrid Sustainable Fashion Association (MSMAD), the Barcelona Sustainable Fashion Association (MSBCN), the Murcia Sustainable Fashion Association (MSM), the Andalusia Sustainable Fashion Association (AMSA) and the Extremadura Sustainable Fashion Association (MSE).

MOMAD Shoes, the ultimate event for Made in Spain footwear

In its third edition solely dedicated to footwear, MOMAD Shoes has proved itself to be the biggest showcase of Made in Spain footwear, as it brings the widest array of Spanish companies in the world together at the same venue, showcasing their new collections for the coming Autumn/Winter 2017/18 season.

In addition to the interesting display of offerings, with more commercial trends and opportunities, the event's content will be complemented with an attractive programme of parallel activities, including the MOMAD Shoes Forum and various exhibitions. It will also accommodate the MOMAD Catwalk, a new platform for the promotion of the exhibiting companies that will offer 30 fashion parades, in three daily sessions, throughout the three days of the event. And as a meeting point and place to rest, visitors will have access to the Winter Terrace, a space that offers attractive recreational initiatives in addition to food, drink and entertainment.
